Private Blog Network – Universal Pictures has officially acquired the rights to The Hider. A short story by acclaimed author Julianna Baggott. The studio is planning to cast Oppenheimer star Robert Downey Jr. in the lead role. While details about the project remain scarce due to its early development stage. Downey Jr. is also set to produce the film alongside Susan Downey and Amanda Burnell through their production company, Team Downey.
Collaboration with Robert Downey Jr. and Key Players
This potential collaboration was first reported by Deadline, just a few months after Downey Jr. took home an Oscar for his supporting role in Universal and Christopher Nolan’s blockbuster film Oppenheimer. Universal aims to reunite with Downey Jr. for the adaptation of The Hider. With the screenplay penned by Andrew Barrer and Gabriel Ferrari. Both known for their work on films like Transformers One and Ant-Man and the Wasp. Although Downey Jr. has not yet been confirmed to star in the project, he will serve as a producer via Team Downey. Alongside additional producers Tory Tunnell and Joby Harold of Safehouse Pictures. Julianna Baggott, the original author of The Hider, is currently credit as the executive producer.

Julianna Baggott’s Continued Success
Julianna Baggott is a well-established author who has been crafting novels, short stories, essays, and poetry for over three decades. Her work is no stranger to Hollywood adaptations—her short story Backwards was sold to Netflix in 2022, and two other stories have been pick up by Paramount. Although Universal Pictures has yet to reveal plot details for The Hider adaptation. This project promises to be one to watch, especially with Robert Downey Jr. potentially taking on the starring role.
Downey Jr.’s Return to Marvel and Other Ventures
In other significant news from San Diego Comic-Con, Kevin Feige announced that Robert Downey Jr. would be returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but not in his iconic role as Iron Man. Instead, Downey Jr. is set to portray Doctor Doom in Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars, replacing Kang the Conqueror as the primary antagonist after Jonathan Majors’ departure. Marvel also revealed that previous Avengers directors, Joe and Anthony Russo. Will return to helm these films, reuniting the trio responsible for some of the highest-grossing movies of all time. Downey Jr. was last seen on television in The Sympathizer, which earned him an Emmy nomination. But his return to the big screen outside the Marvel franchise has been eagerly anticipated since Oppenheimer left theaters.
