Bournemouth Close In on £34.6m Deal for Diakite

Private Blog Network – Bournemouth are nearing the signing of French centre-back Bafode Diakite from Lille in a deal worth approximately £34.6 million. The transfer includes an initial fee of £30.3 million, with an additional £4.3 million in add-ons. Diakite, 24, is currently in the UK completing a medical before finalising the move.

The signing would make Diakite the club’s second most expensive player, behind striker Evanilson, who arrived from Porto last season. Evanilson’s transfer fee could rise to £40.2 million, setting a club record. Diakite’s arrival represents another major investment in Bournemouth’s squad rebuild under manager Andoni Iraola.

Diakite joined Lille from Toulouse in 2022 and made 85 Ligue 1 appearances over two seasons. He also featured ten times in the Champions League last season, gaining valuable experience at the highest level. His strong performances have attracted interest, with Bournemouth moving quickly to secure his signature.

The defender will become the club’s third confirmed summer signing following the arrivals of left-back Adrien Truffert and goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic. Additionally, 19-year-old forward Eli Junior Kroupi, signed in January, is now with the squad after finishing last season on loan at Lorient.

Defensive Reinforcements Key as Bournemouth Prepare for Departures

Bournemouth are actively reshaping their defence following the departures of key players from last season’s starting lineup. Milos Kerkez joined Liverpool in a £40 million move, while Dean Huijsen completed a £50 million transfer to Real Madrid. Both sales have left significant gaps in the backline.

Further changes are expected, with Ukrainian centre-back Illia Zabarnyi reportedly close to a £55 million move to Paris Saint-Germain. With these exits, the club is focused on securing reliable defensive options before the transfer window closes. Diakite is viewed as a key part of that strategy.

The Cherries remain linked with additional centre-backs as they continue strengthening their defensive core. They are known to hold interest in Chelsea youngster Josh Acheampong and Sevilla’s Loic Bade. However, Bade is now expected to join Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen instead.

Diakite brings versatility, having played across the back line for Lille, and is known for his composure and ball-playing ability. His experience in European competitions adds depth to a Bournemouth squad aiming to push higher in the Premier League table.

Manager Andoni Iraola is tasked with building a balanced team that can compete at both ends of the pitch. With the defence undergoing significant change, the addition of Diakite could help stabilise the backline as the club navigates a new chapter.

With the season approaching and key players departing, Bournemouth’s swift moves in the transfer market reflect a clear and urgent plan. Diakite’s signing signals intent and could prove pivotal in achieving long-term success.
