The 19-year-old is currently part of England’s Under-20 squad and will join Plymouth following international duty. He is expected to add technical skill and composure to the midfield, aligning with the possession-based style promoted by head coach Tom Cleverley.

Cleverley emphasized the importance of signing a central midfielder before the transfer window closed. “Law is an exceptional young talent who is highly thought of by everyone at Middlesbrough,” he stated via the club’s official website. “He is technically very good, excellent on the ball, and will complement the style of play we are looking to implement perfectly.”

McCabe’s arrival reflects Plymouth’s commitment to developing a balanced squad with a mix of youth and experience. His addition comes at a time when the club seeks more control and creativity in the center of the pitch. If he adapts quickly, McCabe could become a regular presence in Plymouth’s League One campaign.

The loan move also provides McCabe with an opportunity for regular first-team football, which is crucial for his development. His performance in League One could shape future opportunities at both club and international levels.

Owen Dale Arrives to Fill Winger Gap Left by Amaechi Injury

Alongside McCabe, Plymouth have also brought in Oxford United winger Owen Dale on loan for the rest of the season. Dale, 26, is an experienced wide player who has made nearly 250 professional appearances, including around 150 in League One.

Dale began his career with Crewe Alexandra, where he was named Player of the Season, and later featured for Blackpool. He joined Oxford United in February 2024 and played a key role in their League One play-off final victory that season.

Dale’s arrival comes as a response to a recent injury setback. Winger Xavier Amaechi suffered a hamstring tear during training and is not expected to return this year. Plymouth moved swiftly to fill the gap with a player who can immediately contribute at a high level.

“Owen brings with him strong EFL experience,” said Cleverley. “He will add to the mentality of the group but most importantly will strengthen our options in a wide area and increase our creativity and output.”

The loan deal provides Plymouth with greater flexibility in attack and ensures depth during a demanding part of the season. Dale’s track record suggests he can make an immediate impact, offering both goals and assists from the flanks. With the signings of McCabe and Dale, Plymouth aim to solidify their position in League One and push toward the top half of the table.
